Food Waste Research Funding for Aotearoa’s Retirement Sector

Food Waste Innovation will lead a government-supported project which aims to reduce food waste in the retirement sector of Aotearoa. The Government has allocated $4.2 million in funding to four projects to reduce food waste by 10%, with our project receiving $230,000. This project is in collaboration with Retirement Villages Association and providers Arvida and Bupa and builds upon a successful pilot that Food Waste Innovation and Arvida ran last year.

Under the leadership of Director Miranda Mirosa, the project will be conducted in three stages. Firstly, sector engagement, including food waste audits and interviews. Secondly, different approaches to reducing food waste will be designed and tested. Lastly, the most effective interventions will be implemented throughout the sector.
