A systematic review of food loss and waste in China: Quantity, impacts and mediators

About this resource: Although food loss and waste (FLW) is high on China's national policy agenda, there is still little scientific information published about how much FLW exists in China, its impacts, and what needs to be done to reduce it. The review provides a collation of 57 academic articles across disciplines and of both English and Chinese academic literature about FLW in China. The study revealed inconsistent definitions and calculation methods used to measure FLW and research gaps, such as a lack of focus on the behavioural factors of waste and the limited range of social innovations studied to reduce it. Thus, this review will help develop research agendas designed to advance efforts in this field.
