PMCSA Project on Food Waste
The Office of the Prime Minister’s Chief Science Advisor is investigating food rescue and food waste as its major project for 2022/2023. They will be publishing a series of reports pertaining to several focus areas throughout this time.
The Postharvest Education Foundation
The Postharvest Education Foundation (PEF), a non-profit organisation based in the US with a global reach, runs food loss and waste reduction programmes and provides free resources. Programmes are run by postharvest specialists who teach in local languages and provide practical advice to assist smallholder farmers and small food businesses.
ReFED
ReFED is a US-based non-profit dedicated to ending food loss and waste across the U.S. food system by advancing data-driven solutions. On their website, you can find food waste resources and guides with personalised tools to help identify the most effective food waste solutions.
Routledge Handbook of Food Waste
This academic edited book published in 2020 contains 31 chapters focusing on various aspects of food waste-related theory and research, each written by top academics in the field. This book is the most comprehensive and up-to-date compilation of food waste research that exists.
Save 1/3
Save 1/3 is a public awareness campaign run by the World Wildlife Fund. This campaign raises awareness about the 1/3 of all food produced that is wasted. The campaign focuses on the environmental impacts of this waste, particularly the impacts on climate change.
Stop Food Waste Day
As a global leader in food service, Compass Group US introduced Stop Food Waste Day in 2017 before going global in 2018. Their commitment stretches from working with suppliers, implementing sustainable practices in Compass Group’s operations and raising the public profile of the issue.
Save The Food
Save the Food is an education and awareness campaign based in the US advocating for reduction in food waste. The focus of the campaign is on reducing household food waste and their website provides dozens of resources for individuals to reduce their household food waste.
Upcycled Food Association
The UFA is a membership-based representative body for the upcycled food industry. They conduct research in the upcycled food space and support others in the industry. At the forefront of the upcycled food movement, this is the place to go for all things upcycled food.
Waste Matters: New perspectives on food and society
This academic edited book was published in 2011 as issue 60 in the Sociological Review. The 12 chapters provide various sociological perspectives on the intersection of food and waste, as it can be explained through social theory.
WasteMINZ
WasteMINZ is the largest representative body of the waste, resource recovery, and contaminated land management sectors in New Zealand. In 2013, WasteMINZ launched a national food waste prevention programme and has conducted much of the research on food waste in New Zealand to date.
Waste: Uncovering the global food scandal
This 2012 book written by Tristram Stuart, founder of Feedback Global, was the first widely popular exposé of the food waste issue. The book explains the parallel issues of mass food waste and food insecurity and is a call to action to redesign our food system.
WRAP
WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Program) is a non-profit research and action organisation based in the UK. It is one of the leading organisations globally for food waste reduction across the supply chain. Its website has a plethora of resources available for use.
