Why the Waste Exhibition

Food Waste Innovation Presents.... Why the waste? an art exhibition on display as part of Food Waste Action Week (March 18-24)

Hannah Morgan Savage is an artist from Kirikiriroa, Waikato, who studied a BSc in Physical Geography at the University of Otago. Through drawing, painting and animation, she uses art as a tool to push the momentum of conversations around ecological and social issues related to climate change.

The multimedia pieces in ‘Why the waste’ emphasise the social and economic implications of food going to landfills, and highlight their interception with the overwhelming crisis we face of a rapidly warming atmosphere.

“While New Zealand’s economic and political context ebbs and flows through ongoing transitions, the urgency to reduce waste remains a constant.” Hannah shares, “For the wellbeing of people and the environment, sustainability initiatives need to be actioned on a multitude of scales, and by each link in the food supply chain.”

Hannah’s works were displayed in the Link during Food Waste Action Week.
